Currently in Modern we have the 5 Zendikar fetchlands. In Modern specifically the card pool (Everything printed in 8th Edition and every block and core set after that) isn't as great as Legacy or Vintage but it isn't small like Standard. However in Modern,Legacy, and even Vintage Deathrite Shaman is easily one of the most played cards. It hasn't seen much play in standard probably due to the fact that there are no fetchlands in that format and there probably won't be at least until it rotates. When Deathrite Shaman was released everyone knew it was going to be one of the best cards printed in a while and that was going to make an impact on the game somehow. Here is how I feel about these changes and how they will impact Modern as a format. Deathrite Shaman got the axe while Wild Nacatl and Bitterblossom just got out of jail.

Nothing changed significantly except for Modern (not a surprise considering it is before the Pro Tour). Last night the changes to the Banned/Restricted lists for each format were posted.

To those that have qualified and are going I wish you sincerely the best of luck. Pro Tour Born of the Gods in Valencia,Spain is in a few weeks and people are preparing for what the Modern format will bring. The format became so unhealthy that action had to be taking and Wizards of the Coast banned Disciple of the Vault,Arcbound Ravager, and the 6 Artifact lands in standard effectively making the deck unplayable.įast forward to today. You dump your hand by playing zero cost artifacts and artifact lands making high cost cards such as Myr Enforcer, and Frogmite cost nothing and aggro them out. To those that don't currently play Modern or didn't played in that era the purpose of Affinity was simple. From the stories I've heard this was in the era that almost Magic almost died and it was basically "Play Affinity or Die" (Not a pun on P.Diddy's "Vote or Die" campaign from the 2004 presidential election). In Mirrodin Block Standard Affinity was the litterally the only played deck winning every major event. Before I get any further into my thoughts about the recent changes I want to give a history lesson as to why we need a banned list. If they change for the good it's usually because detrimental card(s) that are unhealthy for the format get banned. Sometimes things change for the good or they do for the bad.

As someone and to anyone who as played TCG's for a while like I have we all know change is inevitable.
